Artist Statement

After living in some of the most beautiful cities and towns (and islands) in the country, I now paint in my colorful studio overlooking Guemes Channel on Fidalgo Island in Washington State. I watch ferries, barges, and boats come and go through the channel when I take painting breaks. Not surprisingly, my fine art paintings are inspired by this place - coastal life, summer flower stands, island landscapes, and the nearby patterned farmlands and Skagit Valley tulip fields. But… I still have one toe back in my beloved Santa Fe so you’ll see some Southwest pop up too. My work is distinguished by a lively mix of patterns, saturated colors and rich details and types of media. I love to combine acrylics or watercolor with pastels, ink, and collage elements to present my subjects in joyful and lively ways. My paintings are enhanced by lots of color-layering, and I often add final bits of color using French pastels.
