Cat Brooks, a fresh face in the art scene at 53 years old, is debuting her work as an abstract painter and digital artist here in West Seattle. Born and raised in New York, she didn’t pick up a paint brush until she was in her 40s as a therapeutic exercise after being diagnosed with Endometriosis.
Her new series, primarily digital, reflects the journey as a woman living many years in pain with an invisible disease. Using a darker palette and leaving the figures faceless is reflective of feeling unseen and dismissed. Subjects are skewed, a little contorted, or fading into the background, yearning to reclaim visibility and agency.
