The Jeweled Shore

My paintings start with walking. The beach is where I go to think, to meditate, to explore new ideas. You probably have a special place, too, where you feed your soul - the woods, the shore - nature feeds us. I start by looking closely - drawing and taking photographs of the fascinating creatures, colors and shapes that live in the littoral zone - the area between low and high tide - at dawn, or dusk - when the light is just right. Then I work from these drawings and images to create paintings based on looking closely at nature - but with the freedom to follow where imagination takes me.
