Seattle Folklife-Fiber Arts booth-2014 to 2019
Seattle Folklife Festival----Since 1972, Northwest Folklife Festival has served as the official start of summer at Seattle Center. Folklife is an independent 501(c)(3) arts organization that celebrates the multigenerational arts, cultures, and traditions of a global Pacific Northwest. For over 48 years, Northwest Folklife has been deeply committed to celebrating the diversity of our Northwest communities and de-mystifying our differences together, under one roof. The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, closed the May 23-25 Festival.
In 2014, a \"Call for Fiber Arts\" was sent out the Seattle Art Community. The plan was for a wide diversity of fiber artists to bring and work on their fiber art as a flash mob. This sedentary flash mob picked out a place on the Fisher Pavilion , and worked on knitting, weaving, spinning, sewing, embroidery, basket-weaving, and other fiber art. By 2016, the Flash Mob morphed into a booth where the public could see finished pieces of art (and purchase) and watch each artist working on a project. In addition, 2015 started a 3 year tradition--fiber \"bombed\" string instruments. The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic closed the Fiber Booth. Hopefully returning 2021.
