Artist Statement
Lauren M. Wong explores emblems of fragility, resilience, and empowerment. She works in bold meticulous ink to capture intertwining relics of decay with representations of growth, and transformation. Wong works in ink, both physical and digital as acts of mark making to symbolize contending expectations as a matriarchal figure. Building layers of forms living, dead, and objects of symbolic power are her memento mori. These transformational forms symbolize the matriarchal armor she must build as a mother.
