As an art director and graphic designer of 20 years, mostly in advertising, I honed in on the notion of instantaneous storytelling. Concept then execution and if you’re lucky enough, you put across an idea in the blink of an eye.
As time went on I found myself gravitating towards less conceptual (“quick”) and more “mood” or “vibe” methods of storytelling. I wanted people to spend time with what I created. It didn’t take long to realize what I was making was more art, less advertising.
My creative directors knew they’d lost another one.
Photography has always been a big part of my life. I’ve always had a camera. Luckily time + technology allowed me to create the ideas I envisioned — in this case a blending of original photography with texture: paint, molding pastes, putty, paper, really anything I could make stick to a wood panel.
It’s a never-ending search for ways to convey an idea I want to express — it’s become wholly obsessive.
