“Drawing” is usually considered to be the most important thing an Artist needs to favor. It develops our eye and most importantly our judgement…the ability to tell whether something looks right or wrong…Does it work with what we are trying to create?

Like every other endeavor, the more we do of it the better we get, or the better our eye gets! One often is under the impression that good drawing is related to doing a good figure or life drawing, but not necessarily. Drawing  just about anything, furniture, teapots, fire hydrants, etc will just as much sharpen our eye. Certainly if one wants to do figures mostly, it’s probably a good idea to take a lot of life drawing sessions, and if you can draw the figure pretty well, one can usually draw most things well.

If one wants to do landscapes, one is probably mostly going to learn how to draw trees, water, mountains etc and  the more one does any of that, their eye or judgement will get better and, over time, they could probably go back and do a halfway decent figure drawing!

This workshop will show participants how to draw better, not just draw contours, but also how to draw a fairly solid object. I want students to gain an understanding of seeing what “shape” or “shapes” an object is made of. Seeing things as cubes, spheres, cones, cylinders, some combination or semblance of the structure of an object.

We will discuss and practice drawing  and rendering the form of more simple objects to more more complex, and how to follow the principles of design in putting things together to form an interesting or compelling picture. We will also talk about “seeing as an Artist”, what that means and how can we do that!

Participants may pay by paypal or by sending a check to: Ned Mueller at  13621 182nd Ave SE, Renton, WA 98059
