During this four-day workshop we will be painting a head-and-shoulders portrait from a live model. On the first day I will give a demonstration of my painting procedure and will discuss my approach to capturing a likeness. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of accurate drawing, analyzing the planes of the head, determining correct values, mixing clean flesh tones and controlling hard and soft edges. On the following days workshop participants will paint from the model and I will give personalized instruction and demonstrate as needed.

Painting a portrait is no easy task and it is recommended that students have experience with drawing the head and painting in oils, but all who are truly interested in learning will be welcomed. My desire is that all workshop participants enjoy this time painting together and take away some useful principles and insights that will help in their own painting journey.

This four-day workshop, July 8-11, 2017, is open to all levels. The cost is $600 plus a model fee.

Please note: this will not be held at our regular venue but at a wonderful place called the Dancing Fish Vineyards (https://www.dancingfishvineyards.com/). It is no more then 10 minutes from Langley and for those without a car we will drive you back and forth.

On the grounds of the winery there is a very nice farmhouse that sleeps at least 4 to 5 people. The cost is $365 a night for the whole house. If a group would like to get together to stay there please let us know and we will organize that.
