This is a stand-up class for people who are somewhere between brand new to stand-up and a little experienced. We’ll focus on generating work—taking your little kernel of an idea and refining it into something that will make people laugh. Through a focus on writing, students will find their own unique comedic voice that lets their personality and perspective shine through. We’ll also spend plenty of time on comedic styles, stage presence, and joke delivery—everything you need to give you the confidence to take the stage. We’ll also cover the Seattle comedy landscape, and how to get started as a comic. The instructor, Dan Hurwitz, curated Bumbershoot’s 2024 and 2025 comedy lineups and was named “An Undisputable Genius of Comedy” by the Stranger, despite a middling SAT score.
