This exhibit celebrates my favorite season–SPRING!–when the world comes back to life, the colors blossom, and the light returns. It is the most optimistic and joyful time of year. I hope these works bring you a rush of good feelings as Joy Springs Eternal.
I paint joy to feel better. Re-assembling the colors, creating gentle patterns, and working with colors I love, soothes me–and gives purpose through growing joy in other people’s lives. I’m a professional painter with a 20+ year artist practice, with the past seven years focused on joy–what it is, how to find it, why it matters. Joy is an optimism of spirit we all carry within us and is sparked through our actions–it helps us get through difficult times.
Recent studies show that looking at colorful art not only reduces stress and increases cognition, but it is also the neurochemical equivalent of looking at someone you love. My use of vibrant colors, combined with the orderly repetition of soft petal shapes, creates non-objective works of contemporary pointillism designed to evoke joy.
