Baroque Meets Karuk

Sound Salon (Formerly known as Byron Shenkman & Friends) opens it 2023-24 season (its 11th) season with an unique and exciting concert, Baroque Meets Karuk, at Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall at 7pm on October 1, 2023.

It is 17th century music for strings and harpsichord, highlighting the connections between Spain, Italy, Austria and the colonization of Turtle Island (now known as the North American continent.) A string ensemble led by Anna Okada performs works by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, Andrea Falconieri, and Isabella Leonarda, alongside music from the Karuk tradition of the Pacific Coast, gifted by violist and Karuk tribal member Breana McCullough.
