Artist Talk: Level 7: A Memory Installation with Cami Smith

A few months before I turned seventy, I found myself thinking less about the milestone and more about the people who had shaped the decades along the way. I reached out to more than one hundred people—friends, family, college classmates, former coworkers, neighbors, and connections from every chapter of my life—and asked a simple question: Would you share a small memory of something we did together? Something ordinary. Something that made you smile or laugh.

Over the following months, seventy-five memories came back to me. The memories came from across a lifetime—from someone who knew me when I was two to someone who is ninety-two and living with dementia.
