I started out as a jeweler, because I loved the permanence of metal, but as I worked I made larger and larger pieces and realized, what I really loved was sculptural work.
My work is inspired by a lifelong obsession with spirals, by color, and by the shaped canvas paintings of Elizabeth Murray and Frank Stella, which break out of the "window" perception of traditional canvas art. I want my work to move into space the way theirs does.
I make wall sculptures hand carved from high density foam, coated with a durable finish and hand painted. They are light, which allows me to make the kind of larger work that I love, and do not require heavy duty hanging hardware.
