Through macro/close-up photography, I expose the viewer to the hidden worlds that are unseen by the naked eye, revealing details that lie below the surface. Zooming in and magnifying a section of a leaf, isolates this hidden world, showing the viewer something completely different than if they were to see an image of a grouping of leaves. The same can be said about a section of rusted metal or peeling paint. I am intrigued by the similarities of two unrelated objects when set by side, such as rusted red metal and red mossy tree bark or observing how lichen spores resemble sea plant when seen close-up. While out photographing, I gather natural and found objects and blend them with paint or to stand alone to create mixed media shadow boxes and paintings.
