Chris Buckley grew up in England. She created her first piece of art age 2 on her mom’s freshly painted walls. Needless to say, any consequences that were given did not dampen her developing creative skills. She went on to study nursing at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington. She was a good nurse, but a better artist. She ended up working as a graphic designer at The Wellcome Trust, a leading London based charity. As she didn’t go to art school she considers The Wellcome Trust job her lucky break. She has a lot of people to thank for showing faith in her untrained skills and given her the opportunity to learn from talented graphic designers, and pursue a career using her artistic skills.

She immigrated to Seattle in the late 90s where she spent her time bringing up four active, demanding, incredible kids. During the early years of motherhood, art became her sanctuary, her escape to tranquility. Even though she still has one active, demanding incredible kid at home, she is grateful that she gets to spend a little more time doing art now.

Her art reflects many aspects of her life. Her inspiration for her work is both reflective and random. She likes to work in a variety of ways, and in a variety of mediums. Not confining herself to one medium and one style enables her to experiment, explore and evolve, helping her to refine her craft. Over the years she has produced a mixture of non-representational imagery, cityscapes, and figurative art. Sometimes when she paints she starts with a blank canvas and simply begins, with no preconceived ideas of the end result. She tries to find balance with what appears on the canvas, color, form, line, shape, texture, light vs dark, and in that process, she instinctively recognizes when it feels complete. She used this process when she created the painting Autonomous, which received 10th Place in the 2018 Patterns Art Exhibition. She has also started creating digital art. This is a totally different process in that she starts with a pre-conceived idea. The nature of digital art means you can start with an image and multiply that image into several totally different art pieces. Her recent works in this medium have been biographical in nature, displaying her connection to England and Europe. Her art is her visual diary reflecting all that excites her about the world around her, past and present.
