Ned has a series of workshops in different venues around the country. Click on this link to find one that suits you :
Ned has two different online workshops and the first one is: “Expressive Portrait Drawing” where we will learn to not have to “copy” the model but we will draw the portrait more looser by trusting our experience and judgement. You will learn to see beyond the features and get the structure underneath to get a more solid and expressive portrait! We will also go through the process of understanding the features of the face, eyes, nose, mouth and ears by doing each in a generic way to better understand how those features are structured
Students will be encouraged to use Bistre conte or 2B compressed charcoal and a smooth newsprint or bond paper. Students really improve quickly and have a good time doing it!
“”Knowing and Applying the Principles and Elements of Design” is the second workshop offered…When we apply these principles and elements of design..our paintings get better! These workshops are limited to 12 students and so each student gets a lot of attention and they are all priced very modestly for the quality of the instruction that is offered. We will be doing small value and color studies…around 6″x8″ or 8″x10″ to get our ideas and design down to see what is working and what is not. They are fun to do and we learn a lot, just by going through this process. I firmly believe that most drawings and paintings are ruined at the start as we don’t give enough thought to this process that includes smaller value or color studies. I think you will find that most of the very best artists will agree about the great value they have! The old Masters worked for four years doing black and white studies and when I was in art school we did not work in color until our 3rd year! I hope that you understand the importance of this and how it will give your work more quality and a better foundation to work from.
