      OPPORTUNITY

The City of Duvall is seeking proposals from experienced artists and muralists to design and sketch a mural featuring “Duvall through the Ages” encased in the letters spelling “Duvall.” Examples provided in this Call for Artists. This opportunity is open to all mural artists living in King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, Washington. The selected artist or artist team will need to present their final design to the City of Duvall Cultural Commission before work commences.

The site location for this project will be on a residential retaining wall at the intersection of 1st Street and Virginia Street in the City of Duvall. It is expected that this project will be located on approximately 8-9 “panels” of the retaining wall, with each letter of the name “Duvall” featuring a self-contained theme that reflects “Duvall through the Ages.” The muralist will design the mural based on the concept of a “Greetings from” mural and using the theme “Duvall through the Ages.” The muralist will then sketch the design on the mural on the pre-painted retaining wall with the understanding that the painting and completion of the mural will be performed by the Duvall community in a community special event setting. The selection committee has developed some shared thoughts on the story being told with this project that they would like to share for artists consider: the “Duvall through the Ages” theme must be clearly understood from the design; the design must be suitable for public viewing of all ages and audiences; and the design must be able to be easily painted by community members of all ages.
