RICHARD HUGO HOUSE ART GALLERY PRESENTS

"New Edition Work" by Saya Moriyasu

A collection of prints and sculptures

Exhibit runs October 20 - November 30, 2005 at Richard Hugo House

The Richard Hugo House Art Gallery is pleased to present "New Edition Work," a collection of prints and sculptures by Saya Moriyasu. An opening reception will be held Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 5-7 p.m.; the exhibit runs through November. Admission is free.

"New Edition Work" is the 2005 unveiling of new prints that are in preparation for a collaborative edition piece. The new work is an expansion of Saya's "Portraits of Ladies and Man Servant."

"The Ladies came out of my work on Restaurants," said Moriyasu. "The Ladies being the Patrons caught in moments -- private moments in public places. The manservant is a white, ghost-like figure that is the memory of service perfection. He serves so quietly that his presence is like that of a ghost."

Moriyasu is represented by Seattle's Platform Gallery, which will be a part of the Aqua Art Fair in Miami, December 1 to 4 (www.aquaartmiami.com), as one of 34 galleries from around the world. The fair coincides with Art Basel Miami, as well as Scope/Miami and NADA. The work being shown at Hugo House is a preview of what will be shown in Miami.

"New Editions Work" runs October 20 - November 30, 2005, at Richard Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave. Admission is free; open hours are 9 a.m. -9 p.m.
Monday through Friday, and noon -5 p.m. Saturday.

ABOUT SAYA MORIYASU
Saya Moriyasu was born into a family of artists, dancers and creative thinkers. This and her diverse background shape the way she approaches art.
Her installations are groupings of objects that result in dramatic interplay. Her current work conveys ideas about culture, class, beauty and consumerism. Following graduation from the ceramics department at University of Washington in 1991, she attended the prestigious program at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Saya has shown at Platform Gallery, the Bellevue Art Museum, Wing Luke Asian Museum, Esther Claypool Gallery, Soil
and Platform Gallery.
