I’m running a little survey to find out which day and time subscribers prefer to receive our weekly art calendar update email. If you aren’t currently a subscriber, you can sign-up at http://www.seattleartists.com/main/contact_us.asp.

Some people prefer to get the weekly update on just before the weekend starts but others like it a few days early so they can plan ahead, but I’d love to get everyone’s feedback on this.

Thanks!

White Center for the Arts is looking for artists to show work at their monthly gallery show and studio tour (every third Saturday, 5pm). The next one is on June 20th.

The show is open to a wide range of work, from visual art for the walls, to multimedia and performance.  There are various open spaces to use in the  historic building in the heart of the White Center Strip.

Work may be for sale and priced by the artist.

They would love to host artists that live in or nearby to the neighborhood of White Center, but are open to all work!

Please contact their curator, Aylin Koker, at aylin@whitecenterforthearts.org if interested.

Save the White Center, Southgate Skate Center, Seattle, WA While I’m not personally familiar with the art center or the building, I do like to support a good community cause. White Center for the Arts is an emerging nonprofit community arts organization and they are trying to save/buy the old skate building in White Center that they currently occupy. If they don’t raise enough money for this historic building, it will most likely be turned into a light industry factory.  It is perfect as a community cultural center for arts, education, performance, and history. It has always been community venue.

Help support the cause. For more information, visit www.whitecenterforthearts.org

I recently exchanged a few emails with Denise, the personality behind A Girl On A Mission TV. We chatted about possible cross-promotions we might share between us. I didn’t hesitate at all in agreeing to put the word out to our visitors about her show and website. As I stated to her, I have long since stopped caring about whether another art organization or related website is a competitor to SeattleArtists.com, and have adopted the philosophy that sharing local Seattle art information, whatever it may be, is our sole purpose. Similarly, the goal of A Girl On A Mission TV is to highlight local artists in the Seattle area that might not have access to other media.

I think using the community TV concept is a great idea. When I started SeattleArtists.com in 1999, there was barely any access to local art unless you went to a retail gallery. For artists, it was extremely difficult to showcase their artwork unless they had formal representation through a gallery or agent, and there definitely were not any art websites online at the time. The motto at SeattleArtists.com has always been “using digital technology to broaden the reach of local art” and A Girl On A Mission TV fits in nicely to the spirit of that motto. As Denise put it, “it seems like we are peas in a pod”.

A Girl On A Mission TV airs on the Community Media Channel SCAN TV and streams live at www.scantv.org.

A Girl On A Mission TV also maintains a blog at http://www.agirlonamissiontv.com/.

I’m a bit behind the curve in regards to Twitter for SeattleArtists.com. I’ve been using twitter quite successfully with other businesses and clients but just never got around to adding it to SeattleArtists.com.

Well now it’s here. You can follow us at http://www.twitter.com/SeattleArtists. I’ve always been a huge fan of Twitter so I’m going to try and quickly integrate it into our site and emails.

So if you have friends that are interested in the Seattle art scene, please retweet it, repost it, or pass it on with whatever your favorite flavor of social media is.
